The largest state in India, Rajasthan, is known for the plethora of monuments, both forts and palaces, that abound in its history and mythology. These structures are not only memories of the past princely state of Rajasthan but serve as well as artistic heritages. They welcome visitors from across the world, which makes the state a very commendable heritage tourism region.
The Rajputana bravery and architectural beauty are depicted in many famous forts in Rajasthan, particularly the Amber Fort of Jaipur in Bundi, the Mehrangarh Fort of Jodhpur, as well as the Jaisalmer Fort. As the architecture of Amber Fort is adorned with beautiful courtyards and glasswork, it takes the visitors back to the time of the Maharajas. However, standing on top of a hill, the gigantic walls of Mehrangarh Fort offer a breathtaking sight of the Blue City, Jodhpur. The living sandcastle fort of Jaisalmer is built of golden sandstones fused with the desert.
Rajasthan's forts and palaces amaze the tourists with the grandeur of the intricate designs and massive constructions. The City Palace in Udaipur turns out to be the largest city palace in Rajasthan and presents a splendid view of Mughal and Rajasthani designs of architecture with its position next to Lake Pichola. The Hawa Mahal, or the 'Palace of Winds' had an innovative lattice honeycombed facade that enabled women of the royals’ family to witness the parades on the streets without being seen.
A number of historical places in Rajasthan, like Ranthambore Fort and Kumbhalgarh Fort, are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list under "Hill Forts of Rajasthan." Kumbhalgarh Fort demonstrates the advances of medieval warfare with its wall that is over 36 kilometers long and is the second longest wall in the world.
In recent times, a good number of these palatial edifices have been converted into luxury hotels, allowing tourists to taste the royal treatment. A visit to the popular forts and palaces of Rajasthan is worth it, for each edifice is studded with such narrations of bravery, finesse, and magnificence.
