The Hawa Mahal, located at Badi Chaupad Jaipur, was built in the year 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. Made of red and pink sandstone, the building has a crown-shaped, pyramidal roof with 953 windows, also known as jharokhas, built into it.
These jharokhas helped in the flow of cool air inside the palace. The design of this building was such that it was possible for the royal women to participate in the street activities and parades without being seen, as per the customs.
It is located on the eastern edges of City Palace and consists of five stories each containing various rooms. A fountain can be seen at the entrance, and the staircase thereafter proceeds to the upper levels, which overlook the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, and the Sireh Deori Bazaar.
