How to Reach Rajasthan?

Rajasthan, often referred to as the Land of Maharajas, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India with international visitors. It is easy to reach Rajasthan as it has a good network of air, rail and road transport. Cities like Delhi and Mumbai are the International Airports and the two major entry points of the state to the travelers. The public transport system in Rajasthan is so well arranged that it is not at all difficult traveling Rajasthan from any Indian location and experiencing its cultural, historical, and traditional treasures without any hurdle.

By Air: Reaching Rajasthan by Flight

The nearest major air transport facility to the region of Rajasthan is the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) situated in New Delhi which is nearly 250 kms away from the region. There are direct flights operated from the important metropolitan cities such as Delhi and Mumbai to the important cities of Rajasthan like Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur. Besides, the state itself boasts of three major airports which include Jaipur International Airport, Jodhpur and Udaipur airports providing numerous flights, thus aiding in the development of tourism in the state of Rajasthan.

By Rail: Reaching Rajasthan by Train

Rajasthan is adequately served by a good railway network, with several major superfast and express trains operating from cities like Delhi to Mumbai among others. Major cities including Mumbai, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur have daily services of superfast trains. The state has over 4600 kilometers of railway lines, which consists of wide gauge lines which connect Jaipur to most of the cities of India including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. In addition, Jaipur is the headquarter of the North-West Railways, which improves connectivity further and allows one to reach Rajasthan by trains with ease.

By Road: Reaching Rajasthan by Bus or Car

Visiting Rajasthan is not a challenge as it is well connected by an elaborate system of highways that extends to various parts of the country. National highways (NH8, NH11, NH15) connect Rajasthan to other cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Agra, Gwalior etc. There are also regular bus services including the government and private luxury buses that travel to and from major cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Jaisalmer. Besides these travelers can also rent automobiles or hire taxis in the state for a hassle-free ride in the picturesque terrains of the state.

Rajasthan being centrally located, it is well connected by roads for all traveling purposes, so one doesn’t have to worry. The following are distances from some nearby cities:

  • Delhi to Jaipur: 280 km.
  • Delhi to Udaipur: 660 km.
  • Mumbai to Udaipur: 760 km.
  • Ahmedabad to Udaipur: 260 km.
  • Agra to Jaipur: 240 km.
  • Jaipur to Jodhpur: 340 km.

These road distances, as well as the fact that the highways are in good condition, permits travel to and from the state and its bordering cities with ease.
