Lakes in Rajasthan
Apart from its historical and sandy deserts, Rajasthan is also known widely for the beautiful lakes that add to its beauty and offer a different experience of tourism. Most of this water is man-made owing to the fact that the Rajput rulers constructed these during ancient times for purposes of storage and are, however, today popular tourist attractions due to their historical stories, culture, and beautiful landscapes.
Udaipur, otherwise known as the “City of Lakes,” attracts visitors who are interested in lake tourism in Rajasthan. One of the popular lakes in Rajasthan is Lake Pichola, which is surrounded by the Lake Palace and Jag Mandir palaces, old havelis, and ghats. A sunset viewing of the Pichola Lake is gorgeous while taking a boat ride. In addition, Fateh Sagar Lake offers a quiet ride on a boat with the addition of three islands, including Nehru Garden. Another beauty that Udaipur poses is Jaisamand Lake, which is the second biggest man-made lake in Asia and has marble steps, big pavilions, and a wildlife sanctuary around it, which makes it a must-visit lake in Rajasthan.
Pushkar Lake is one of the important pilgrim’s destinations, with 52 ghats encircling the lake where the pilgrims conduct their religious activities and also take a dip in the holy water. There is the Pushkar Camel Fair every year, which has its own gaiety and attracts tourists interested in ethnic or cultural events.
The largest inland saltwater lake in India, Sambhar Lake, is located close to Jaipur. Like its stunning saline lakes and the presence of a birds’ sanctuary, Sambhar acts as a magnet for birdwatchers with the sublime flamingos and other migratory birds.
The lakes of Rajasthan are at par with the landmarks of the state; they however convey a different kind of message. Every lake not only adds to the beauty of Rajasthan but also gives the tourists a chance to rest and to have some adventuristic activities or cultural activities.
